I love bourbon country so I was excited for another opportunity to visit Lexington. This game was on Veterans Day, 11 Nov, so I incorporated it into my annual pilgrimage to Alabama for Thanksgiving, which means Rummy joined me! We arrived in Lexington and kicked off the weekend with dinner at Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse, over-the-top in the best way, and exactly the kind of start a Lexington weekend deserves.
Saturday, we made our way to Kroger Field, and what got me was the crowd. A sea of blue Wildcat fans enthusiastically showing up even with the odds stacked against them. Big Blue Nation knows how to have a good time, and the hospitality all over Lexington matched the
energy in that stadium. Our friend Jamie, visiting from England, was with us too, and it was his first college football game. Loved introducing him to the SEC.
The Tide walked away with it, 49-21, in what turned out to be one of Nick Saban’s final road wins as head coach. Closed out the trip with a stop at Town Branch for a bourbon and beer tasting. Wouldn’t be a trip to Kentucky without it.
Huge thanks to my friend Andrea Coughtry for hosting me and Rummy for the weekend in the
Bluegrass State.
