Stone Tower Winery

Dog-Friendly Winery in Leesburg, VA

Stone Tower Winery is a beautiful dog-friendly winery in Leesburg, VA. Our first visit was a few years back, on a weekday in December. It was a lovely visit, but wow, what a difference a season makes! This place is COMPLETELY different in summer. We enjoyed our first visit, but now understand why people rave so much about this one.

Harvest Barn: Dog-Friendly Tasting Room

First, the property is expansive. There are two tasting rooms, multiple patios and a sizable patio/lawn area. The main tasting room is for adults (age 21+) only–no kids or pets. But the Harvest Barn allows kids and pets. And it has plenty of room inside. The seating configuration changed since our last visit (more sofas then). They now have a few tasting counters and at least a dozen tables inside. It is barn style, with the exterior walls being roll-up doors. Since there was a lot of cloud cover, the mid-80 degree weather didn’t feel unbearable and the open walls made for a really nice, breezy tasting room experience.

There’s a patio with a handful of tables right off of the Harvest Barn (closest to the parking lot). This may seem like an odd thing to comment on, but the bathrooms are really nice. Especially for separate, outdoor bathrooms– individual rooms with vents, nice vanities, soaps and paper towels and high-powered dryer. On the opposite side of the Harvest Barn is a massive patio/lawn area. You’ll find several dozen tables here, some with umbrellas, looking out over the vines and water feature. This leads to a nice-sized lawn where we saw people lounging on blankets. It’s really stunning. There were several dogs in this area and all seemed to have enough room to relax without being on top of each other.

Pizzas at the Main Tasting Room

After our tasting (mix of whites and reds, $20/tasting), we headed out to the main tasting room where they offer wood-fired pizzas and other snacks. Dogs are not allowed in the tasting room, but they are allowed on the patio which also overlooks the vines and water feature. We were lucky to score a table at the rail for a phenomenal view. This tasting room definitely has a different feel than the Harvest Barn–less rustic, more upscale. I got a peak of the area reserved for wine club members and suffice to say it looks like a place I’d be very comfortable for a very long time.

We ordered a pizza, which was delivered to our table. Rummy had plenty of room to relax at the table without being stepped on (that’s the worst). There were several other dogs on the patio, all kept to themselves as the spacing of the tables is comfortable. There are also water coolers with cups in both tasting rooms, so no lack of water for people or pups.

This ranks at the top of our Northern Virginia favorites. We really enjoyed our visit in December when, with the cold temperatures, tasting room access for dogs in a must. But we only saw the front of the Harvest Barn, none of the vines or property. I’ve heard people rave about Stone Tower so I knew I needed to go back in Summer but had no idea it would be this much of a difference. Wow. Can’t wait to return.

5 pups

The only thing I can think of to change (and it’s small) would be a trash can in the parking lot. When you arrive with a dog, it’s nice to have a trash can immediately available so you don’t have to do the walk of shame with a poop bag around the property looking for a trash can. That’s awkward enough anywhere, but at a winery? Ugh. Aside from that minor inconvenience, we give Stone Tower Winery 5 Pups for tasting room access, lots of indoor seating options, water readily available, plenty of room outside, amazing views and just being incredibly comfortable for the whole family (dogs included).
